Atleast two people have died and more than fifty injured in two separate explosions involving buses along Nairobi's Thika Road.
The Casualties include 5 children who are nursing serious injuries.
Both
blasts occured along Thika superhighway with the first going off
outside the Bluesprings Hotel and the second one at the Kasarani
underpass.
The blasts were set off in
two high capacity buses and an unknown number of casualties has been
rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital and Ruaraka Uhai Neema
Hospital.
Confirming the deaths, Dr.
Antonio Milito of Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital who received all the
casualties, said that two people died and more than fifty suffered
multiple injuries and were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital and
Guru Nanak Hospital for specialised treatment.
The two buses, belonging to Jean transporters and Mwi Sacco, filled to near capacity were travelling from town to Githurai.
GSU and plainclothes are at the scenes of the blasts.
Disaster
operation through their Twitter handle @NDOCKenya have said that
sections of Thika Road have been closed off and traffic has been
diverted.
"Traffic towards Mwiki, Kasarani and onward
to Thika is being diverted. Thika Road section between Jambo grill and
TRM roundabout is closed."
Reports of a third blast at the Hilton Hotel have been proved false.
