President Barack Obama’s step brother Malik Obama has denied that he is selling two hand-written letters from the US leader.
Malik, who declined to answer calls from the Nation only texting back, saying the report that he was selling the letters at $15,000 each was propaganda that should not be given any attention.
“The business about selling letters is propaganda. The Western media is making circus out of nothing,” his text read.
He further denied the Nation access to the letters, saying the media had initially misreported that it was his grandmother Mama Sarah Obama who had the letters.
“You guys reported that Mama Sarah had the letters when we came from the inauguration in 2009, no more publicity and misreporting for me,” he wrote in the text.
Legibly addressed
It is reported that both the undated letters on White House letterhead say, “Thanks for your prayers and support” and are signed “B.O.”
One is legibly addressed to “The People of K’Ogelo,” while the other appears to have the heading, “To the people of K’Obama.”
The New York Post, which first reported the offer to sell the letters, quotes US collector Gary Zimet as saying: “I wrote to Malik and didn’t know if I would get a response. I was astonished when I did.”
The letters were allegedly being offered for sale on the website momensintime.com.
