Lupita Nyong'o has laid to rest rumours swirling around her lovelife.
The Oscar award-winning actress who is July’s cover girl for Vogue
magazine, opened up about her phenomenal year that has seen her rise
from a student to one of the year’s biggest breakout stars and fashion
icon.
In the interview, for the spread in Vogue, Lupita talks about growing up in Kenya, her love for fashion that saw her make her own outfits and the man in her life.
She
confirmed that she has been dating Somali-Canadian rapper K’Naan since
September last year. The rapper, whose real name is Keinan Abdi Warsame,
is best remembered for of the 2010 World Cup anthem "Waving Flag."
K’naan,
who is a divorced father of two, is no stranger to controversy. At the
height of the piracy menace on Indian Ocean waters, K'naan surprised the
world when he came out in defence of the Somali pirates.
Through
his music and press appearances, he argued that the pirates were a
misunderstood lot and not the criminals who had infested the Indian
Ocean, violently taking ships and crew hostage and demanding hefty
ransoms for their release and making the East African waters the most
dangerous in the world.
K’naan
argued that the pirates were rendering an essential service to the
region by ridding the regions of opportunists who had taken advantage of
Somalia’s lawlessness to dump toxic waste and deplete fish reserves,
destroying the livelihoods of millions in the process.
Prior to her confession, the couple had been spotted together, causing speculation of a romance between the two. READ: Could Lupita be dating K'naan?
Unconfirmed reports had previously linked her to Jared Leto, who also took home an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
Lupita's appearance on the cover of Vogue comes less than two months after People magazine featured her on the cover and declared her the world's most beautiful woman for the year 2014.
