Former President Mwai Kibaki stranded for hours at Kenyan airport

Several domestic flights in the country’s major airports were delayed Saturday morning, leaving passengers confused and frustrated.

Former President Mwai Kibaki was among passengers affected by the delay at the Kisumu International Airport.

Kibaki, who was returning to the capital Nairobi from a graduation ceremony held on Friday at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega, was forced to wait for his flight for nearly two hours.

His flight’s departure was slated for 10:50am Saturday, but Kibaki ended up leaving the lakeside city airport minutes past noon.

A KQ staff, who spoke in confidence, confirmed the delay at the Kisumu International Airport. He, however, noted that the airport authorities restored flight operations before more delays could be witnessed.

Kisumu County Commissioner (CC) Maalim Mohamed, who visited Mwai Kibaki at the lakeside city airport, confirmed to eDaily that the former head of state had departed after the delay and flew safely to Nairobi.

“All is well. Mzee is back in Nairobi. It is only KQ that was late but it later came,” Kibaki’s spokesperson Ngare Gituku told eDaily.
