The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Amb Francisco Caetano Madeira has lauded the efforts of the AMISOM troops especially the Ugandan contingent the stationed in Lower Shabelle region for successfully repulsing a deadly al Shabaab ambush.
The troops fought off and successfully repulsed the terrorists who had launched simultaneous attacks on Forward Operating Bases in Quoryole, Bulomareer, and Golwein.
Amb. Madeira said that the troops managed to kill nearly 90 al Shabaab terrorists in what is being described as a huge show of might and courage by the soldiers who were able to decimate several vehicles and recover a cache of weapons.
In the statement, he said, “We honor our brave soldiers, who are resolute in continuing to neutralize the insurgents in order to restore peace and stability in Somalia.”
Madeira also mourned four soldiers that lost their lives in the attack calling upon all parties to come together to eradicate the al Shabaab threat once and for all. In recent weeks, al Shabaab has been dealt major blows and losses in seeming reinvigorated forces and SNA soldiers dismantling the terror networks and operations in Somalia.
