Busia Water Executive has promised to eradicate water scarcity in Teso Region
County Executive committee member for Water, Environmental and Natural Resources Dr. Isaac Alukwe has promised to eradicate the problem of domestic water in Teso North Sub County.
Speaking during his tour of the proposed site for the Sh5.7 billion multi-purpose dam at Kocholia on Monday, Dr Alukwe said there is nowhere he has worked and failed to leave a mark.
“This is one of the focus areas for the Governor Sospeter Ojaamong who has to leave a legacy especially when it comes to providing clean and safe water to its people, "he said, and urged politicians from the area to back the program fully and speak with one voice.
Dr. Alukwe said county government will make sure the project takes off and that people leaving along the affected area are fully educated about compensation and the importance of the project so that it can be completed in time.
The County Assembly deputy chair finance David Kokonya said they will facilitate the project financially and talk to other members in the assembly to embrace and support it so as to eradicate the problem of water and inadequate food supply in Teso North Sub County.
The CEC Member for public works, roads transport and energy George Okwara said he will work hand in hand with the implementers of the project to see to it people in Busia county get better services.
He promised to look into feeder roads repair in the area in order to ease the transportation of food that will be produced from the dam that will also be used for irrigation.
Okwara thanked Governor for his efforts of seeing to it that his people get clean and safe water near their homes to allow children get water on time and go to school like other children in other areas in the county.
The acting chief officer for water, environment and natural resources Moses Weunda thanked the villagers and area leaders for embracing the project that will go a long way in helping the coming generation and curb water borne diseases that have been there especially during dry season.
He thanked the Government of South Korea through the Nile Basin Initiative for funding the project and urged them not to relent or disappear after the feasibility study.
Kokonya and his Malaba Central counterpart Bernard Papa cautioned people who have plans of stopping or trying to slow down the project and called upon residents to consult with the leaders in case of any problem or query.
They promised to tirelessly work to make sure the whole area of Teso is adequately provided for in terms of clean safe water and the multi -purpose dam is constructed to alleviate more problems.
Deputy Director Trans Boundary Water Resource in the Ministry of Water Silas Mutia M'Nyiri and his colleague Margaret thanked the county government for welcoming them and embracing the project.
