NEWI PROGRAMME MANAGER JOB IN KENYA
Vacancy: Programme Manager
Location: Nairobi
Grade: 2
Duration: 1 year
Post Type: National (1 year contract with possibility of renewal)
The Organization:
NEWI-The Women’s Initiative in Education is a national advocacy group of professionals, mainly women who champion –girl-child education in Kenya. It works closely with communities, schools and Government to support and mentor girls in school.
Key Areas of Accountability
• To ensure the programme is implemented according to the approved donor agreements and implementation plans.
• Develop and regularly update a detailed implementation plan.
• Prepare narrative and financial reports for donor and NEWI as required for review in a timely manner.
• Put systems in place to ensure information required to monitoring progress and impact indicators is collected, compiled and analysed appropriately, while ensuring all the NEWI and donor monitoring requirements are complied with.
• As a budget holder, be fully aware of the grant compliance regulations of the donors. The post holder will work with NEWI founding trustees to review and revise budgets, authorizing and monitoring expenditure in line with the stipulated budget and financial guidelines.
• To have overall responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the programme
• To monitor and support the work of the mentors/ volunteers.
• Regularly undertake liaison and advocacy with Government officials in areas of operations.
• Facilitate visits to field sites for donor representatives and other external visitors as required.
• Be able to clearly explain project activities and objectives, related policy issues and the project contribution to wider NEWI goals and objectives.
Qualification and Experience
• Must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in social science or its equivalent (a professional qualification in project management will be an added advantage).
• Experience working in project and personnel management.
• A good understanding of development issues and policy context in Kenya.
• A passion for girl-child education with an understanding of child rights and their interests in development context.
• Experience in partnership management.
• Excellent spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
• Proven analytical and strategic planning skills.
• Experience in monitoring budgets.
• Strong written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literate in Word processing, excel and social media management.
• Knowledge of the area and regions where project is located.
