A Nairobi Member of the County Assembly (MCA) has accused a colleague of assaulting her in his office and inflicting serious bodily harm on her.
Kayole South MCA Elizabeth Akinyi Imanyala was on Wednesday evening nursing her wounds at Nairobi hospital after the alleged attack on her by the Leader of Majority in the County Assembly Elias Otieno.
Ms Imanyala who spoke to Nation.co.ke from the hospital said that the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) MCA attacked her with slaps, banged her on the wall and descended on her with blows.
“I am suffering from injuries on my neck, cervical collar and awaiting for a city scan because I might have a crack on my skull,” she said.
She said by the time of going to hospital she could not speak.
The midday attack is said to have ensued the Majority Leader sent her a text message asking her to facilitate a women’s sports trip to Mombasa with Sh800,000 from the County Women’s Caucus account, which she is the chairlady.
According to her, she got into his office at around 1pm where she found him with his body guard and one female MCA.
She said that she informed him that she would call a meeting as she could not withdraw the funds from the account without approval.
However, Mr Otieno denied the allegations and instead accused her of trying to attack him in his office.
“I wrote her an SMS which stated ‘Please communicate to Ngwele (County Clerk) because the ladies want assistance, “said Mr Otieno.
He said he had been approached by the women at the Assembly to intervene as they needed money to attend participate in a netball ball game in Mombasa next week.
According to him, Ms Imanyala on Wednesday morning stormed his office at City Hall furious and banging his table and threatened to beat him.
He said that he was with the women in his office when she came in.
“I heard Ms Imanyala shout and bang the table removing her shoes and threatening to tear her clothes. I do not remember beating her,” said Mr Otieno.
Mr Otieno said that the women carried her outside ‘as I sat on my chair speechless and learned through WhatsApp that she went to the hospital’.
“Ms Imanyala called women from the Assembly and incited them and banged my table challenging me to beat her but I did not even touch her clothe, if someone bangs your desk does that mean I beat her?” posed Mr Otieno.
He termed the move by the MCA as malicious and that she was just seeking money from him.
