Ghana: Angry NDC Youth Attack Ashanti Regional Executive

  By GNA

A group of supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) angered by the nomination of Mr Kwadwo Bonsu, as Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive on Tuesday locked up the party’s Office in Ashanti Region.

Carrying offensive weapons they ordered the Regional Officers, who were meeting to come out, amidst accusations of having been bribed with an amount of GH¢200,000.00 by the nominee.

The mob struck at about 1015 hours.

It took the personal intervention of the Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, to calm down the irate group, calling itself TERMA (Task Force and Motor Riders Association).

Mr B. Taylor, who styled himself as the TFMRA Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that they had been irked by reports that the Regional Executive had been influenced with money to do the bidding of Mr Bonsu.

He said there was something unacceptable and were not ready to countenance.

Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, Regional Chairman of NDC, denied the bribery allegation, explaining that the executive members were busily meeting when the group armed with weapons and padlocks burst on the scene and ordered them out.

They had no option but to oblige and they went ahead to lock up the place.

Mr Obimpeh said they informed the Regional Minister about the unfortunate development and he intervened to restore calm.
