The plane carrying President Kenyatta and his
entourage touched down at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha
shortly after 6.00 pm. On arrival the President was received by the host
President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of the United Republic of Tanzania and
the Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania Mr Mutinda Mutiso, who led the mission
staff among other senior Tanzania Government officials.
Thereafter President Kenyatta was entertained by groups of traditional dancers.
Accompanying the President is the First Lady
Margaret Kenyatta, the Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Mr Thuita
Mwangi among other senior government officials.
The Summit to be held at the Ngurdoto Mountain
Lodge in Arusha brings together the EAC Heads of State and will be the
first EAC meeting for President Kenyatta to attend since he was elected
the fourth President of Kenya in March.
At the Summit, the Heads of State will consider
the progress report of the Council of Ministers on negotiations for the
establishment of the East African Monetary Union and the report on the
proposal by the Bureau of Speakers to upgrade the bureau into an organ
of the EAC.
They will also deliberate on the appointments of
new EAC Deputy Secretary General from Kenya and the new judges of the
East African Court of Justice from the Republic of Burundi and Rwanda.
Other leaders expected in the meeting on Monday
are the current EAC Chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the
Republic of Uganda, President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda and
President Pierre Nkurunziza of the Republic of Burundi.
