The salaries of Members of Parliament and County Representatives will not be reviewed upwards until the economy improves, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has maintained.
The SRC chairperson Sarah Serem said the commission will not be intimidated by threats from the elected leaders.
"This issue of intimidation is not something we will stop to listen to," she told journalists in a press conference on Monday.
She added that the salaries of SRC commissioners
have not been reviewed upwards as some MPs are claiming and that the
commission will not review its own salaries.
The MPs had tabled a petition to remove members of
the commission that sets and reviews salaries for State officers in a
move to clear obstacles in their search for a higher pay.
MPs have argued that SRC did not arrive at the
Sh532,500 they are to be paid after an evaluation of their jobs but by
simple arithmetic.
